Article Summary

In the article “Collaboration through Co-teaching,” by Nicole Fenty and Kimberly McDuffie-Landrum, they discuss different techniques of co-teaching and how to create cohesive co-teaching environment in the classroom. They discuss different roles of the teachers and the importance of their individual roles but that they need to share their classroom, but maintain control at the same time. They stated that most teachers that co-teach feel lost and are always cautious to not overstep their roles in the classroom. The teachers feel this way mainly because of lack of training on how to co-teach. Many teachers have taught for several years by themselves and find it extremely difficult to share teaching responsibilities with someone, in most cases, that they barely know. Additionally they address common reason why teachers have difficulties co-teaching from both perspectives, and offer techniques to alleviate confusion in the classroom. This article was very interesting because it offered a step by step process to set up your co-teaching experience for success. I will use this in my paper because it offers several different perspectives and various examples of failing circumstances without proper training.
